So what is an IBCLC?

I am so excited to announce I passed my IBCLC certification exam!! It has been a year long journey of learning and it feels amazing to be able to now truly help parents on their breast feeding journey.

So what is an IBCLC?

It stands for International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. It’s the highest certification you can have in breastfeeding support. It requires 95 hours of breastfeeding education, 1000+ hours of patient care focused on mother’s and babies and a multiple choice exam.

What can an IBCLC help you with?

Breast feeding can be a struggle. IBCLCs are amazing educational resources, helping from everything to figuring out the best position to hold your baby to trouble shooting causes of pain. Given their experience and training, they can offer helpful tips and tricks to make your breastfeeding journey as successful as possible. They’re like a coach and cheerleader in one! They’re also a great resource for more complicated breastfeeding experiences, like with a preemie, multiples, or babies with developmental or physical concerns.

As an MD/IBCLC I am so excited to be do all that and more. I can help mothers with low supply, oversupply, infections or other more medical concerns while also supporting their individual journeys.

Stay tuned for more about my decision to become an IBCLC!

Did you need the support of an IBCLC? I’d love to hear your experience!
